Fenech Guitars workshop

Fenech Guitars workshop

Aaron’s passion is manufacturing Australian high-quality hand-made guitars from his workshop on the Gold Coast. A carpenter by trade, before studying science at university and working in the corporate world, Aaron has returned to his creative roots and combined his passion for woodworking and musical instruments to create Fenech Guitars. He now runs a well-known guitar company exporting to clients in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, USA, China and of course Australia

Most of his workshop has been fitted by Gregory Machinery as Aaron prefers to work with one supplier of machinery and a business that provides good after-service support. “Like all machines, from timeto-time machines need servicing or wig out, so having the support of Greg Mach in Brisbane is a massive advantage”.

“I’d deck out my whole workshop with Laguna if I could”.

He loves the Laguna products and would personally deck out his whole workshop with high-quality Laguna products when he has the chance. Over the years he has purchased a combination of new, custom-ordered and second-hand machinery from Gregory Machinery that includes a Laguna CNC router, Laguna Bandsaws, Wide Belt Sander, Disc Sander, Oscillating Bobbin Sander, Edge Sander and a bespoke Dust Extraction set up.

The best bandsaw

Fenech Guitars Laguna bandsaw

The precision in his guitars calls for precise machinery and he cannot fault the equipment purchased. He has had a Carbatec and Jet bandsaw before, but nothing beats this one, as he points to the Laguna 18BX Bandsaw. He loved the Laguna bandsaws that much that he bought two – one 18BX and the Laguna 14BX. The 18BX ensures incredible accuracy for veneers of 0.5mm while the 14” bandsaw is used for the curved work. The ceramic guides are another massive advantage as he was forever changing bearings on previous bandsaws. For safety, he also loves the foot brake on both bandsaws that stops the machine instantly. Not having to change the blades speeds up processes and ensures each machine has a main responsibility in the workshop. He recommends everyone working in cabinetry or guitar making to do the same (purchase two bandsaws)

Laguna CNC router

Aaron trusts the work completed by the Laguna Smart Shop CNC router with its exceptional accuracy to assist in the production of his guitars. The tolerance level of 0.001mm is achievable through the programmed machine allowing the machine to assist in the detailed tasks of guitar necks, bridges and fingerboards. Speaking openly, Aaron explained the resource required to write the code for the CNC and developing jigs and vacuums to help. The Laguna CNC has a gantry of 250mm perfect for the larger router bits that need the clearance to complete the neck of the guitar. The team ran 150 neck profiles before he was happy with the final prototype. “The neck is the first thing musicians feel making it the most important part of the instrument”.
