MortisersA mortiser is a specialised woodworking machine used to cut square or rectangular holes in a piece of wood. The square chisel mortiser (also called hollow chisel mortiser), similar to a drill press in many respects, combines the cutting of a four-sided chisel with a drill bit turning in the center. The bit clears out most of the material to be removed, and the chisel ensures the edges are straight and clean. Square chisel mortising bits can also be fitted to normal drill press using a mortising attachment. A Chain Chisel Mortiser is commonly used for cutting larger mortises such as those used in timber frame construction.

The gold standard in woodworking was not always gold on the outside. In 1921 the first POWERMATIC tool, a planer was produced by Leonard f. Smith, Sr. A lumber dealer. Originally painted green, the planer was built to perform for long durations in the most challenging environments. Demand for these machines grew and the legend of POWERMATIC was born. The power of POWERMATIC soon became known as the gold standard in woodworking for its tremendous performance and durability. It would only be in the years to come that the exterior of each machine reflect its interior gold excellence.
The POWERMATIC name has lasted for more than 85 years and its products are built to last for the future generations. The innovative features incorporated into each machine have earned them numerous awards and countless outstanding reviews.
POWERMATIC is also a part of the WMH Tool Group which consists of Jet, Powermatic, Performax and Wilton Tools
